Pottery Workshop - Make, Design and Decorate

A full day plus a separate half-day, where you’ll discover the wonderful world of clay. You’ll design, make and decorate pottery using basic handbuilding techniques. Limited to eight participants. All materials provided. (Held at the Clay Penguin Studio, 13 Hector St, Seatoun).

Description

In this course, held over a full-day Saturday and a Saturday morning at the Clay Penguin Studio in Seatoun, you’ll use the pottery techniques of pinching, coiling and slab work to create your pottery.

In the first full-day workshop, you’ll be introduced to ways of using sources of inspiration to develop designs and decoration for the work you will make. In the second half-day session (held some weeks later to allow your creations to dry), you’ll be able to finish decorating and glazing your pottery.  Please check the course dates carefully.

All materials and firing included but bring a craft knife and some sources of pattern (e.g. fabric, wallpaper, shells and leaves). Please note that this workshop does not include work on a pottery wheel.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
• Create pots by coiling clay, pinching and using rolled clay slabs
• Use different sources of inspiration to design pottery
• Use different methods to decorate your pottery
• Demonstrate the correct use of prepared glazes
