Puppet Improv - An Introduction

Puppets are a weird and wonderful sub-genre of improvised comedy as they are almost always ruder and bolder and more playful than the humans operating them. Learn how to operate a Muppet-style hand puppet and join in some classic Improv games.

Description

In this half day workshop, you'll find out how to use a Muppet-style hand puppet worked in the 'visible operator' style of Avenue Q, and then get to grips with playing some old classic Improv games, involving people and puppets.

You'll get the chance to work with a variety of puppets, work on developing unique characters with distinctive voices and discover playful ways to express yourself, whether you want to perform on stage or use puppets as a tool for storytelling.

No prior Improv experience needed! Wear clothing that's comfortable to move in.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:
• Identify different types of puppets
• Operate a Muppet-style puppet
• Work with other puppets and humans in simple theatre games
• Create a distinct voice and character for a puppet
• Improvise a puppet from found materials
