NZ Sign Language - Introductory 2A

For those who have completed NZ Sign Language - Introductory 1D or have equivalent knowledge.

Description

A continuation of the study of NZSL, overall features of Levels 2A and 2B will include:

  • NZSL Literature
  • Vocabulary review and definitions
  • Narrative structure in storytelling
  • Transitions
  • Grammar notes
  • Classifiers
  • Advanced sentence structure

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to talk about people in a more abstract way and talk about the environment outside of classroom, i.e. at home or in other parts of the country.  You’ll also be able to narrate events that occurred in the past as opposed to telling what is happening currently. 

You’ll be able to:

  • Ask for solutions to everyday problems
  • Tell about life events
  • Describe objects (classifiers)
  • Talk about weekend activities

 Cumulative Reviews - you’ll also learn:

  • Appropriate cultural behaviours (for directing and maintaining attention)
  • Keeping others informed
  • Strategies as in controlling the pace of conversation and resuming conversations after an interruption

Note:  Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel. Prerequisites

For those who have completed an Introductory 1D course, or equivalent.

NOTE: This course is subsidised with funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and for statistical purposes, some additional information is required as part of the enrolment process. A condition of enrolment on this course is that you will attend at least 80% of the sessions. The first time you enrol, you'll need to provide your National Student Number (NSN) or, if you don't have one, email a copy of your passport or birth certificate as proof of your NZ citizenship or residency to cec@whs.school.nz.
