Spend a day learning or extending your skills in sketching, composition, perspective, light and shade and painting as you create a still life artwork. M
Artists have painted still life subjects for centuries, sometimes for clients who wanted a record of their precious items or often because of a love of shapes, light and shadows, composition and colours. We’ll look at some historic artworks then set up our own compositions and paint them in the medium of your choice. Feel free to bring along items you’d like to capture or work on the composition set up by the tutor.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:
• Discuss aspects of still life paintings done by the Old Masters
• Recognise what materials are needed for the still life art work
• Create an initial sketch
• Demonstrate a range of techniques including perspective, light and shade
• Discuss finishing techniques such as varnishing and framing
A list of materials to bring will be sent out when course numbers are confirmed – please choose just one medium to use for the workshop (acrylics, pastels, pencils or watercolours). Materials costs will vary depending on your medium of choice.
Note: Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel. We'll let you know by email so please check yours regularly. If you need to cancel your registration, here are our terms and conditions: "What You Need to Know".
