Develop your own style and creativity as you learn basic pottery techniques. All levels welcome and all materials provided. (Held at Wellington Potters' Centre, 130 Grant Road, Thorndon).
Suitable for beginners as well as those with some potting experience, this introduction to the wonderful, organic material that is clay will cover all the steps from preparation and re-cycling to glazing the finished work. It will include most of the usual methods of shaping clay: pinching, coiling, slab construction and an introduction to throwing on the wheel, which will help you gain the skills to make your own exciting work.
Please note that the focus of the course is on hand-building and there will be two sessions only on throwing techniques.

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
• Make pots by using hand-building techniques
• Prepare the clay for use
• Demonstrate the basics of working on a pottery wheel (centering, opening and pulling up)
• Demonstrate the correct use of prepared glazes
