Tap Dance for Beginners

Feel the rhythm and beat it out in a fun and technical class for tap dance beginners - accomplish a basic routine and learn the lingo of tap dancers.

A classic of the dance world, tap is fun and cathartic. We’ll be learning a variety of tap steps and moves to complete (and perform!) a basic routine as a tap troop, steps such as time steps, “off to buffalo”, shuffles, tap springs and many more. You’ll learn a new sense of rhythm and how to listen for the beat!

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
• Demonstrate basic tap steps
• Have an improved fitness level
• Improve your sense of rhythm and listen for the beat
• Know the areas of the stage and some basic tap formations
• Perform a tap routine as a troop with confidence

While tap shoes are recommended, you can also wear leather-soled street shoes. If you plan to buy shoes, check with the CEC office first to make sure that the course is going ahead.

Wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water.

Note:  Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel. We'll let you know by email so please check yours regularly. If you need to cancel your registration, here are our terms and conditions: "What You Need to Know".
