Drawing and Painting a Portrait

Using the classic rules of proportion you will develop the skills to draw a portrait of a person following the steps and techniques to develop skills. You will use a pencil to draw a live model from various angles and from photographs and finally complete a portrait in watercolour paints.

Description

Using the classic rules of proportion you will develop the skills to draw a portrait of a person using the many techniques to assist along the way.

Our experienced tutor and artist will demonstrate techniques to “capture a likeness”.

A live model will sit for us and you will use techniques to observe carefully and capture proportions and a likeness. In the following sessions you will work from photographs and learn to build form. Finally you will paint a portrait in watercolour using all those techniques and new found skills.

Please bring 2B pencils, eraser and an A4 sketchbook to class, all other art materials are included in the course fee.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Understand and apply some standard proportions for drawing the human face
- Use watercolour painting techniques to bring form to the portrait
- Complete a finished portrait in watercolour

Note:  Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel. We'll let you know by email so please check yours regularly. If you need to cancel your registration, here are our terms and conditions: "What You Need to Know".
