Clown Experience

Come and learn how to be a clown! Clowning is one of the oldest forms of comedy, and a great way to connect with a more confident and playful version of yourself.

Description

In this course we will set out to find our inner clowns and invite them on stage! This is a class to explore the quirks of everyday life and learn to see them as a gold mine for laughter and connection.

We will learn from the great clowns of history that with a little bit of technique and a little bit of mischief we can generate comedy scenes and stories.

While getting on stage can be a bit intimidating, we aim to create a safe and supportive environment. With a couple of warm up exercises, everyone has the power to enter a more creative headspace and overcome our more self-conscious tendencies.

The bread and butter of clowning is to play games and put yourself in the way of silly mistakes. With stage moments, we will see each other get in trouble and recognize the laughter in the situations we create, unlocking our potential for creating our own routines.

Participants will need comfortable clothes and water. Red noses will be provided (you can bring your own if you have one) and with time and confidence we will add some props and costumes.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
-          Recognise what makes a clown a clown
-          Practise your bodies' possibilities in space and on stage
-          Create your own clown alter-ego
-          Display a less serious self
-          Make playing your new way of being in the world

Note:  Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel.
