Patternmaking Basics: Make a Pair of Trousers to Fit in a Day

A one-day workshop where you'll create a pattern for a pair of trousers that fit and flatter. Not for beginners to sewing.

Description

Tired of pants that just don't fit?  Join our one-day workshop and create a pattern for a pair of elasticated-waist pj/jogger style trousers that fit and flatter you.

To make your pattern you need to bring a long ruler, pencil, eraser, and pen and paper to take notes.  To construct your trousers you'll also need to bring fabric (at least twice the length of your lower body), an 18cm zip, enough elastic to go around your waist, and a reel of matching polyester thread; your sewing kit (fabric scissors, paper scissors, pins, needles, tape measure and Bernina bobbin [can be purchased from the CEC office on the day}).

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

  • Measure yourself accurately for trouser pattern drafting
  • Draft your own trouser pattern
  • Cut out fabric from your drafted pattern
  • Construct the garment, using standard seam allowances (darts and zip insertion optional)
  • Learn a variety of ways to finish seams
  • Make adjustments to your pattern for better fit.

Please note: All courses need a minimum number to go ahead. If your course does not have enough enrolments, we regret that we will have to cancel and will let you know either by email or text. Courses are usually cancelled, when necessary, 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date.

Prerequisites

For those with intermediate and above sewing skills - must be able to operate a sewing machine independently and be confident with sewing terms such as seam allowance, grainlines, seam allowances, etc.
