Jess Richards

Jess is an author from Scotland who now lives in Wellington. As well as three literary fiction novels, she has also published prize-winning short stories and poetry alongside memoir/autobiographical writing which has reached international audiences.

Her three novels have achieved critical acclaim – her debut novel (Snake Ropes) was shortlisted for the prestigious Costa Awards in 2012, her second (Cooking with Bones) was on the list for the Arthur C Clarke Award, and her most recent novel, City of Circles, was shortlisted for the Kitschies Awards 2017 within the best novel category.

Jess is an experienced creative writing tutor who has worked extensively for the Arvon Foundation in the UK, the leading residential creative writing organisation, employing contemporary authors. She has taught many groups – adult beginners, advanced writers, schools groups and writers from disadvantaged areas. Her teaching style is encouraging, welcoming and enthusiastic.
