Fly Fishing

An introduction to fly fishing for trout, which includes choosing gear, finding the fish, fly tying and casting and a practical fishing session.

By the end of the course, you'll be able to: 

• Apply the basics of fly fishing
• Choose the appropriate tackle
• Have an appreciation of the entomology associated with trout
• Demonstrate practical aspects of casting, knot tying, tying of flies and stream craft
• Present an appropriate fly to the water with a reasonable chance of catching a trout

There are three sessions at the high school, plus a session at the Capital Trout Centre and a choice of two river sessions (times and dates to be discussed at the class). Tutors from Wellington Flyfishers Club.   There may also be additional opportunity before class (from 6pm) for casting practice before sessions 2 and 3.

Note:  Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel.
