Pottery - Throwing: Beginners
A course for beginners where we'll cover clay preparation through to throwing of basic forms. All materials provided. (Held at Wellington Potters' Centre, 130 Grant Road, Thorndon).
Description
This is an introduction to the wonderful, organic material that is clay. You'll receive a comprehensive overview to working with clay which will cover all steps from clay preparation and re-cycling through to glazing the finished work. You'll learn to throw basic forms with group demonstration and one-to-one instruction.
Pottery courses are held at Wellington Potters' Association, 130 Grant Road, Thorndon. All our courses are scheduled up to a year in advance which means the at times we may need to make changes to the original schedule. Please make sure you check your emails regularly in case of any changes.

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
• Wedge and re-cycle clay
• Demonstrate the basics of working on a pottery wheel
• Centre clay on the wheel
• Open a centred piece of clay on wheel
• Pull clay up to form basic beaker/cylinder shape
• Demonstrate the correct use of prepared glazes
