Sculpture - Intro to Creature Sculpting

Whether you want to make creatures cute, creepy, in the style of pop-toys, figurines, or a one-of-a-kind character in your own style, this is the class for you!

 Working with air dry clays, oven bake polymer clays and wire, armatures this workshop offers a variety of modelling methods and approaches - a great opportunity to turn ideas into tangible 3D forms. With modern clays we can create translucent, flexible, and even glow-in-the-dark elements to add more realism or a touch of the surreal into each creation!

 We’ll kick off working with traditional air-dry clay to get a feel for modelling a few simple forms.

Once familiar with the materials, we’ll go through some basic design elements, guided by animal anatomy and morphology. From here the tutor will show and chat with the group about ways we can transform the creatures from our imagination into unique sculptures full of character.

 Students will be coached through designing and creating a series of small-scale creature sculptures, beginning simple, and building to a more complex final form as we gather practice.

 The class offers beginner students a fun introduction to sculpting organic forms from scratch, and for those with some hands-on creative experience, it offers a great opportunity to experiment, hone and advance your making skills to new levels.

Please wear closed-in footwear suitable for a workshop environment. bring a work apron if you have one or wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little grubby.  Remember to bring your reading glasses if a have them.
