Women's Health and Aging Workshop

Movement and function can be challenging for women as we age. Join experienced physiotherapist Sara Dore and explore how you can manage the effects on your health and wellbeing as you age as a woman. (Free for NZ Citizens/Residents, others pay fee of $99)

Description

An interactive workshop presented by experienced physiotherapist Sara Dore, focusing on how movement and function can be challenging for women as they age. Particularly for women, there is more to the core than abdominal muscles and strength and we explore these broader aspects.  Most importantly, you will come to understand that movement is medicine and we can make a difference.

You will be able to make a positive difference for yourself! The objective of this workshop is to give you knowledge and understanding about how you can manage the effects on your health and wellbeing as we age as women.  Knowledge is power!

In this one-day workshop you will discover:

- The base of the pelvic floor. Anatomy of the pelvic floor, and the common conditions urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse will be discussed. Education on basic pelvic floor advice and management as well as appropriate exercises will also be covered.

- The middle deep abdominal muscles. Trunk stability versus core strength as we age and the impact on our other core muscles and pelvic floor will be discussed. The principles of Clinical Pilates versus traditional Pilates will be presented together with the key principles of movement is medicine.

-The importance of the diaphragm and breathing well will also be discussed to enhance optimal movement and function for women.

Please wear comfortable clothes and socks as this is an interactive workshop, and bring a yoga mat or beach towel.

Tea and coffee provided, please bring your lunch and snacks.

A condition of enrolment is that you must provide photo ID when you attend the workshop.
