Writing Short Stories

Write short stories that work! Discuss the short stories you love and take part in guided writing exercises to create compelling pieces of fiction.

Description

In this one-day course, we’ll explore the elements that make short stories shine, from creating compelling character dynamics, to choosing the point of view that best serves your story.

Through a mix of discussions and practical writing exercises, participants will leave the course with all the tools they need to write engaging short stories.

Please bring pen and paper, and the name of a short story you like.  Tea and coffee available for your breaks, please bring your lunch and snacks.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Identify elements that make short stories memorable
- Create compelling characters and relationship dynamics
- Write using different points of view
- Explore using symbolism in short fiction
- Use detail to develop setting and character traits
- Identify places to send your completed short stories

Note:  Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel.
